Echoes of Genesis: Israel’s Identity Through The Ages – Part 1

After the 7th of October Massacre in Israel, I wrote a thread exploring Israel’s identity throughout the ages, and it was published on ecspe.org

”Israel is more than 3,000 years old and 75 years young. Ever since Israel was reestablished on May 14, 1948, there has been a widespread belief worldwide that Jews have occupied land that rightfully belongs to Palestine. However, this notion is both incorrect and a form of disinformation. Many propagandists are attempting to spread this false narrative to create confusion worldwide.

Today, we will provide a detailed explanation of the origin of Israel and the historical context surrounding their claim to the land. Let’s begin our exploration.

According to the Bible and the Quran, God called Abraham and entered into a covenant with him. The reason for God’s call to Abraham is central to all three religious’ traditions:

In Judaism: God called Abraham to establish a covenant with himself and his descendants. This covenant included the promise of land (Canaan), and that Abraham’s descendants would become a great nation. Abraham’s faith and obedience were very important in this covenant.

In Christianity: Abraham plays a vital role in the history of salvation. God called Abraham as part of His plan to save humanity. Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Isaac, predicts God’s sacrifice of Jesus for humanity’s redemption.
God promised to make his descendants one of the world’s greatest nations and to give them the land of the Canaanites.

In Islam: Abraham, known as Ibrahim in Islam, is considered a prophet. God called him to preach monotheism, to call people to worship the one true God and to guide them to the right path. In Islam, Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son (Ishmael in Islamic tradition).

All three religions agree on this point: Abraham is the father of nations, and Isaac and Ishmael were his sons.

Who is Israel: A Deeper Dive

There is another point on which all three are once again agreed. And that Jacob was the Chosen one by God who followed his forefathers. Christians and Jews agree on this issue. Surprisingly, the Quran also Accepted him as the grandson of Abraham and a messenger who followed and preached the one true God. Moreover, Jacob is mentioned 16 times in the Quran and in a very highly regarded manner. Even Islamic tradition agreed that his people call him Israil (Israel).

In Islam and the Quran, there is no specific account or explanation for the origin of why the people were called ‘Israel’ or ‘Israil.

Jacob to Israel:

However, In the Bible, the story of Jacob’s name being changed to Israel is found in the book of Genesis, specifically in Genesis 32:22-32. The name change occurred during an encounter Jacob had with a divine figure, often described as an angel or a manifestation of God. When the divine figure was about to leave, he blessed Jacob.

Then the man said, ‘Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”

(Genesis 32:28, NIV)

So, it is proven that Jacob is Israel. When Muslims around the world curse or use abusive language against Israel, they are actually committing blasphemy against their own Quran, as the Quran mentions him as one of its prophets.

As God promised earlier to Abraham, to grant his descendants the land of the Canaanites, we all know that God always fulfills His promises.

He fulfilled his promise by granting the land of the Canaanites to the descendants of Jacob, who was named Israel. Jacob’s 12 sons became the 12 tribes of Israel, known as ‘Bani Israel,’ which is also in accordance with Judeo-Christian history as well as Islamic tradition.

In the Quran, “Bani Israel” refers to the Children of Israel, who are descended from Jacob, also referred to as “Yaqub” in Arabic. There are numerous references to the Bani Israel in the Quran, recounting events and stories related to their history and interactions with prophets, such as Moses (Musa in Arabic). Quranic references to Bani Israel play a significant role in the religious and historical narratives of the Quran.

Quranic References About Bani Israel:

“Bani Israel” is mentioned in several verses of the Quran, particularly in Surah Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2) and Surah Al-Isra (Chapter 17), among others. Here are a few references:

  1. Surah Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2), Verse 47: “O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I have bestowed upon you and fulfill My covenant [upon you] that I will fulfill your covenant [from Me], and be afraid of [only] Me.”
  2. Surah Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2), Verse 122: “O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I have bestowed upon you and that I preferred you over the worlds.”
  3. Surah Al-Isra (Chapter 17), Verse 2: “And We gave Moses the Scripture and made it a guidance for the Children of Israel that you not take other than Me as Disposer of affairs.”

These are just a few verses mentioning “Bani Israel” in the Quran. Several references in the Quran to the historical and religious narratives involving the Children of Israel provide guidance and lessons for its believers.

Hence, it proves that Jacob founded the nation called the Israelites, and all three religions agree.

Why the Land of Canaanites was given to Israelites:

While it is a topic open to debate, it is generally agreed upon in Jewish, Christian, and even Islamic traditions that the land was promised to the Jewish people.

However, even today, some Muslims deny the facts and consider Jews as the occupants of the land of Palestine. This belief lacks historical backing and no evidence of a king or ruler ever governing from Jerusalem.

But we Christians and Jews believe that God has granted the Land of the Canaanites to the Children of Jacob (Israel) due to the following point:

Covenant with Abraham:

God made a covenant (a sacred contract) with Abraham, as described in the book of Genesis. Part of this covenant included the promise of land for his descendants. In Genesis 17:8, God says to Abraham: “The whole land of Canaan, where you now live as a sojourner, I will give to you and your descendants after you as an everlasting possession.”

Fulfillment of a Promise:

The people saw the land of Canaan as God’s fulfillment of His promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Abraham’s descendants) for their faith and obedience. They considered it a land flowing with milk and honey, symbolizing abundance and blessing.

Inheritance for the Israelites:

Moses led the Israelites, who were the descendants of Jacob, out of Egypt. They organized their journey around returning to the Promised Land, viewing it as an inheritance of the land God had promised their ancestors.

Divine Plan and Providence:

In the biblical worldview, allocating the land to the Israelites was part of God’s divine plan to establish them as a chosen people with a unique religious and moral responsibility. The land was not only a physical inheritance but also a spiritual and symbolic one.

It is important to note that this biblical narrative and the divine promise of the land are specific to the religious beliefs of Judaism and, to some extent, shared with Christianity. However, the historical and geopolitical aspects of the Israelite occupation of Canaan are complex and have been a source of controversy and debate for centuries.

Who were the People of Canaan?

The Canaanites were ancient Semitic people who inhabited Canaan, corresponding to modern-day Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, and parts of Jordan and Syria. They lived in this area during the Bronze Age, from around 3000 BC to the early 1st millennium BC.

The Canaanites were not a unified group but a collection of city-states and small kingdoms. They had their own distinct culture, languages, and religious practices. The most well-known Canaanite city was probably Jericho, famous for its ancient walls and archaeological significance.

Canaanite culture and religion influenced the surrounding regions, including ancient Israel. The Canaanites worshiped a pantheon of gods and goddesses, with each city often having its patron deity. Their religious practices included rituals, sacrifices, and various forms of divination.

Various ancient texts, including the Bible, mention the Canaanites, often portraying them as inhabitants of the Promised Land during the Israelite conquest. The interactions between the Israelites and the Canaanites constitute a significant part of biblical narratives.

Truth Unveiled: The Facts Behind War Crime Claims Against Israel

I, Keith Davies, have penned this article to shed light on the accusations of genocide and war crimes against Israel and Jews, contrasting them with alleged atrocities committed by entities such as Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, and Iran. Delving into the term “genocide” and the impact of Raphael Lemkin, I explore the history and implications of these serious allegations. The piece extensively covers the efforts of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to minimize civilian casualties through various strategic measures. Furthermore, it outlines documented war crimes by Hamas, emphasizing the gravity of their actions. Lastly, I scrutinize the international community’s stance, accusing them of falsely implicating Israel and drawing parallels to historical persecution of Jews.

Pro-Palestinian Protesters: Christmas is canceled

According to the ECSPE

Attacking Christmas in the course of a planned riot to promote a radical Islamic agenda to demolish the true spirit of Christmas.

On 25th December hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered in Midtown, carrying a blood-red mock Nativity scene and chanting, “Christmas is canceled here”. Approximately 500 protesters also shouted different slogans such as “Long live the intifada,” “Gaza Calls, Yemen Answers,” “Israeli Boats are cancer,” “Zionism is terrorism,” and “From NY to Gaza, Globalize the Intifada.” As well as the protestors were carrying signs and play cards “No Joy In Genocide,” and “While Ur Shopping Bombs are Dropping.”

The worst part of the Protest was when dozens of people were carrying the Nativity scene splattered with fake blood. They surrounded the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, where holiday revelers were present. It was to create fear amongst the common Christians.

After nightfall, clashes broke out in the crowd, including outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Law enforcement sources later reported at least six arrests, including four for disorderly conduct, one for menacing, and one for graffiti, near Grand Central Station and Union Square. The clashes between protesters and the police led to these incidents.

As the crowd dispersed at Union Square on Monday night, a group of protesters waving the Palestinian flag lingered. Police arrested at least one person in that area. In the videos that went viral on social media, it can be clearly seen that the protesters attacked several policemen. There is even a video of a man shouting, ‘We will kill you all.’

In my view, these incidents appeared to be deliberate riots rather than peaceful protests. Typically, protests do not involve the use of hate speech and inflammatory slogans, whereas this purported protest was marked by the presence of such divisive and offensive expressions.

I am not against any religious group or race, but I am afraid to say that this is a planned attack on Christmas, aiming to destroy the spirit of peace, love, and compassion. America and the Western world need to readdress the issue of migration from places that harbor hatred towards Jews and Christians. New laws should be considered to prevent incidents like this in Western civilized countries.

Gaza Truce Ends, Israel Resumes Combat Operations In Gaza

The seven-day Israel-Hamas truce eventually expired on Friday, December 1 as the negotiations reached an impasse between Israel and Hamas. Israel accused the Palestinian militant group of violating the agreement by firing at Israel. The almost eight-week war was preceded by a cessation and exchange of captives from both sides, however, Israel’s demand to return the rest of the women and minor captives from Gaza turned down by Hamas has sparked Israel’s military combat to resume in mainly southern Gaza City.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the West Bank has stated that the warfare has led to widespread destruction and saw more than 14,800 people killed in Gaza. As the fighting resumes in the Israel-Hamas war, both Israel and Hamas continue to negotiate through mediators over the potential release of Israeli hostages from Gaza, which would prompt another cessation in combat. Israel and Hamas, in consultation with Qatar, the US, and Egypt are still actively engaged in discussing the release of the rest of the Israeli women hostages.

Hamas had reportedly refused Israeli demand to release the rest of the female civilian hostages. Israel believes there are 20 women and two children under the age of 18 still being held, hostage. Israel’s PM office stated on Friday, November 1, that out of a total of 137 Israeli hostages still held captive by Hamas militants, there are still 20 civilian females and 2 minors yet to be released by Hamas. It is believed that if and when Hamas agrees to free the remaining female Israeli hostages, the parameters of the negotiations would quickly turn to other categories of hostages: civilian men, as well as military reservists — both male and female.

Qatar, being a major mediator between Israel and Hamas says that continued combat will make the negotiations much harder. The US, on the other hand, has accused Hamas for the resumed combat. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told reporters it was “important to understand” that the seven-day pause in fighting in Gaza came to an end “because of Hamas.” He stated that “Hamas reneged on commitments it made — in fact, even before the pause came to end, had committed an atrocious terrorist attack in Jerusalem, killing three people, wounding others, including Americans.” On Thursday, November 30, an incident when armed men opened gunfire at a bus stop in Jerusalem, a military wing of Hamas claimed responsibility for the attack. Three people were killed by the militants in this attack. “It began firing rockets before pause had ended. And as I said, it reneged on commitments it made in terms of releasing certain hostages,” the US Secretary of State said.

Third Group Of Hostages Released, Qatar And Hamas Claim Extension In Ceasefire

Hamas has released a third group of Israelis held hostages since October 7. While hoping for an extension in the ceasefire that was originally agreed for a period of four days.  The truce began on Friday and officially will last till Monday. Meanwhile, hostages and prisoners were released by both sides, and 40 Israelis were set free by the militant group. Seizing the opportunity, the Palestinian civilians fled to the south in order to avoid heavy pounding by the IDF once the ceasefire was over.

The office of the Israeli Prime Minister issued an official statement saying: “The negotiations regarding the list of the next freed people as part of the release plan for the abductees continues. We are aware of the stress that families are under, and we will add information when it becomes possible. We ask to avoid spreading rumours and unreliable information.”

Eylon Levy, the Israeli government’s official spokesperson made a statement about a ceasefire extension and said that Hamas has been given the option for an extension of the truce. “Hamas is on notice – that option for an extension is open. We want to receive another additional 50 hostages beyond tonight, on our way to bringing everyone home. As soon as that framework expires, Israel will continue with full force.” Eylon Levy stated that 392 Israeli soldiers “fell in battle” thus far while more than 9,000 Israelis have been injured since the war began.

Dr Majed al Ansari, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has said that the truce between Israel and Hamas has now been extended by two extra days. “The State of Qatar announces, as part of the ongoing mediation, an agreement has been reached to extend the humanitarian truce for an additional two days in the Gaza Strip,” he said. In a statement prior to this, he said he had received “positive messages from both parties to extend the pause”.

Hamas on the other hand has also stated that “The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas announces that it has been agreed with the brothers in Qatar and Egypt to extend the temporary humanitarian truce for an additional two days under the same conditions as the previous truce.” There has been no official confirmation from Israel yet.

Gaza War: Four-Day Ceasefire And Exchange Of Hostages To Initiate On November 24

Israel-Hamas war to cease temporarily on Friday November 24, early in the morning, in keeping with a deal struck between Israel and Hamas. Qatar, being the mediator between both sides, says that the cease-fire is going to last for four days. The deal was originally announced on Wednesday, November 22, however, it will come into effect on Friday, November, 24 at 7 in the morning. Under the deal hostages held by both sides will be released.

In this regard, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed al-Ansari, announced the cease-fire will start at 7 a.m. local time Friday (5 a.m. GMT.) Initially, the release of female and minor hostages from both sides was scheduled for Thursday, November 23, but was postponed. The logistical issues hindering the release of hostages on Thursday were worked out over 24 hours of hectic diplomacy. He further detailed that both sides have exchanged lists of the hostages to be released. The first group of hostages to be freed by Hamas will include 13 women and children. They will be freed on Friday afternoon.

Additionally, the Izz ad-Din al Qassam brigades or al-Qassam brigades, the armed wing of Hamas has confirmed that a four-day pause in fighting will begin at 7 am local time in Gaza (0500 GMT). During this period all military actions from both sides will cease, the statement said. The statement also says Israeli “prisoners, women and children under the age of 19, will be released”. Noting that three Palestinian prisoners, including women and children, would be released for every Israeli. Moreover, 200 trucks containing medical supplies would be brought into Gaza on a daily basis, along with four trucks containing fuel and cooking gas, the statement said.

On the other hand, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office confirmed it has received a list of hostages to be released by Hamas. In a statement, the Israeli PM office stated: “The relevant officials are checking the details of the list and are currently in contact with all families.” The Times of Israel reported that there has been a confirmation from Hamas that the ceasefire will last four days, and 50 hostages will be released in total. On Friday, Hamas is scheduled to release 13 Israeli hostages while Israel will also release Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

The bloody and devastating Israeli assault on Gaza was sparked by the Hamas onslaught on Israel on October 7, when hundreds of Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers were brutally killed by the Hamas militants while more than 240, including women and children, were taken captive in Gaza. The Israeli PM vowed to wipe out Hamas, in a bid to procure peace for the Jewish state. Since, October 7, Israeli forces have been pounding Hamas hide-outs in the Gaza Strip especially in Gaza City.

Israel Hamas Hint On Gaza Truce And Hostage Deal On The Horizon

As the latest development, on 21 November Hamas chief hints that a truce agreement with Israel was imminent.  The Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu, on the other hand said he hoped for good news about the Israeli hostages soon. These statements come as most positive signals from both sides since the war erupted on October 7, 2023. The Hamas officials stated they were “close to reaching a truce agreement” with Israel as the group has sent its response to Qatari mediators, Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh quoted by Reuters.

An official statement released by the Israeli PM’s office quotes the Israeli PM saying: “We are making progress. I don’t think it’s worth saying too much, not at even this moment, but I hope there will be good news soon”. PM Netanyahu was scheduled to convene his war cabinet “In light of the developments regarding the release of our abductees,” the prime minister will convene a ‘war Cabinet’ at 6 p.m. (11 a.m. ET). This will be followed by a “political-security Cabinet” and “government.””, PM’s office said.

Reuters quoted a source briefed on the negotiations that the much-awaited agreement, marking the first truce of the war and the first mass release of hostages held by both sides, was in its “final stages” and “closer than it has ever been”. The source was quoted as saying it was the “closest we’ve been” to a hostage deal. Further describing the potential deal, it was revealed that the first round would procure the release of around 50 Israeli civilian hostages by Hamas and the release of female and minor-aged Palestinian detainees from Israeli custody, as well as a few days’ pause in fighting.

Qatar is mediating between both sides and will be announcing the details of the deal. A Haas official was quoted by Al-Jazeera TV that the negotiations were centered on the duration of the truce, the arrangements for delivery of aid to Gaza, and the exchange of captives. Both sides will likely free women and children. Israeli TV channels Channel 12 and Channel 13 both quoted unidentified officials as saying terms of a deal could be reached “within hours”. U.S. President Joe Biden and other U.S. officials said on Monday, November 20 that a deal was near.

Lahore: Church Set On Fire Over Alleged Loud Sound System Dispute

A Pakistani church was set on fire for allegedly loud worship and sound system irritating the local Muslims in the vicinity. The affected church Gulberg Presbyterian Church in Lahore’s Makkah Colony was damaged in part. The incident unfolded on Thursday, November 16, 2023, early in the morning. Prior to the incident, a threatening letter from a religious outfit left a letter at the main gate of the church threatening dire consequences, if the sound volume was not reduced during the Sunday worship meetings.

While remarking about the incident, Rev. Samuel Massey Gulberg of the Presbyterian Church said that neighbouring Muslims had complained that the worship sound system was too loud. On November 16, a church elder named Zubair opened the church in the morning at 9:30 a.m. after 20 minutes he left to see a nearby carpenter. He said that while the elder was with the carpenter, the elder was informed that someone had set the church on fire. The fire destroyed the church altar, a cupboard containing Bibles and other Christian literature, two air conditioning units, and furniture, along with other items.

Rev. Massey said, “The fire was not accidental, nor had it erupted due to a short circuit. We suspect that someone entered the church when elder Zubair went to meet the carpenter. The intruders locked the main gate from the outside after committing the crime, and passers by and neighbours had to break open the padlock when they saw smoke billowing out of the church building.”

Makkah Colony is a residential neighbourhood in Lahore. Muslims and Christians live alongside each other in the colony. There has never been any unpleasant incident reported in the area previously. “Both communities live in harmony and respect each other’s faiths,” Rev. Massey further added. “However, two years ago, a Muslim family that had moved into a nearby house filed a police complaint against the church to stop using the sound system during worship. I told the police that we used the sound system for two hours only on Friday and Sunday, and that we would make sure that our neighbours do not get disturbed by it.”

It was revealed that the letter was received on October 14. “The letter also mentioned the police complaint that was filed two years ago and stated that the matter had ‘now been brought to their notice’ because we had not adhered to the earlier warnings,” Pastor Massey said, adding that it gave the church 30 days to comply with the demand.

Rev. Samuel Massey detailed that he did not report the incident at the local police station because he said he did not want to cause fear or unrest in the local community. “The situation is already tense after the Jaranwala incident and the issue of the staged assassination case of Pastor Eleazar Sidhu,” Rev. Massey said. “In these circumstances, I thought it was better not to disclose this threat and instead try to minimize the noise from our church.”

IDF Raids Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital After Gunbattle At Gates

Israeli troops stormed into Gaza’s biggest hospital on Wednesday, November 15, engaging the Hamas militants at the gates in a gun battle. The IDF soldiers killed several militants outside the Hospital, as the witness described gun shooting around and at the hospital before the IDF. Israeli tanks and military vehicles rumbled inside the hospital’s courtyard.

The IDF soldiers were reportedly searching the rooms and basement witnesses said. The hospital was already under siege by the IDF troops and was cut off from the rest of the city. In a statement, IDF stated that it had begun “a precise and targeted operation against Hamas in a specified area in the Shifa Hospital.” The IDF Spokesperson told CNN that the operation at Al-Shifa Hospital was ongoing. Israeli radio reported that, so far, the IDF has found no indication of hostages inside the hospital.

“We can now confirm that incubators, baby food and medical supplies, provided by the IDF, have successfully reached the hospital. Our medical team and Arabic speaking soldiers are on the ground to ensure that these supplies reach those in need,” IDF shared on X.

The IDF claims that Hamas fighters have their headquarters in tunnels beneath the Al-Shifa hospital. Hamas, on the other hand, denies the claim. The US said it has intelligence backing the IDF’s claim that Hamas has a command center under Al-Shifa Hospital. Hamas accuses the US had effectively given a “green light” for Israel to raid the Al-Shifa hospital. Hamas said it held that Israel and US President Joe Biden fully responsible for the operation.

In the past few days, reports have emerged that the conditions inside the hospital are catastrophic including desperate efforts to keep premature babies alive and limited procedures taking place by candlelight. “There is no more water, food, milk for children and babies … the situation in the hospital is catastrophic,” Mohammad Abu Salmiya- Director of the hospital told CNN on November 13. There are reports that dozens of corpses are set to be buried in a mass grave in the yard of the hospital complex. “The scene is horrifying, the smell of the dead people is unbearable, most of the bodies are of women and children,” a journalist was quoted by CNN.

Gaza: Hospitals Caught On Frontline Of Israel-Hamas War

Caught in the line of fire, are the hospitals and medical facilities in Gaza. As Israel rages war against Hamas militants, in a bid to annihilate the outfit and its set-ups in Gaza, the hospitals take the toll. Gaza’s largest medical facility; the Al-Shifa Hospital is said to become the largest cemetery in the city as thousands are believed to be trapped inside.

Due to battle raging in the vicinity, thousands of Gaza’s residents are believed to be trapped in the hospital. Other medical facilities in the city are reportedly lacking supplies and power owing to the intense fighting. Israel, on the other hand, says it is not targeting hospitals directly but clashes took place around Al-Shifa and other medical facilities in the city.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that since the war began on October 7, 2023 a total of 36 health facilities including 22 hospitals have been damaged. WHO further added that merely a handful are now still operational. Gaza City’s largest medical facility, the Al-Shifa Hospital has ceased to function, WH confirmed on Saturday, November 11. The situation inside the hospital is “dire and perilous”, WHO declared. Israel, claims that the Hamas militants operate in tunnels underneath the hospital – a claim denied by Hamas.

Reports are emerging that there is no food for those trapped inside and no fuel to run the generators inside the AL-Shifa Hospital. However, a few critical systems are being powered by Solar energy. The Doctors Without Borders charity says that there has been a communication blackout as the charity cannot contact its members inside Gaza City.

The Health Ministry run by Hamas, claims that there are at least 2,300 people trapped inside the Al-Shifa Hospital. Some 200-500 are the hospital’s staff members while 650 patients and around 1,500 people sought shelter in the hospital. There are also newborn babies kept in a surgical theatre, the ministry claims. Staff claims that three of 39 infants in their hospital died over the weekend due to lack of incubators. The surviving babies were at serious risk of death, according to doctors.

Countering the issue the Israel Defense Force’s (IDF) chief spokesman, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, said on Saturday that Israel would provide assistance to evacuate the babies to a “safer hospital”. Nonetheless, the evacuation had yet to happen as of Monday, November, 13.
